Hair Care Resources for Stylists and Salons

We regularly post and develop materials and resources for both patients and The Mane Network, who work with people affected by scarring hair loss.

SAF’s Programs & Services

As a hair care professional, you know more than anyone that a hair loss diagnosis can impact an individual’s confidence and may bring on feelings of anxiety, fear, and isolation. We want to work closely with you to help ensure your clients get the best support, information, and care. SAF offers expert, tailored and friendly support services to enhance and complement the service you provide. We’re here to listen, understand, and help patients move forward with more confidence when they are ready.

Find out more about the many program and services we offer on our main website HERE.  Information is updated frequently so be sure to check back often to access these important resources.

Strategic Growth & Initiatives

At SAF, our BOD, MSAB and staff are continuously working to improve the value and services for patients and healthcare providers. During 2020, SAF quickly pivoted and moved all educational and support programing to an online format, so patients did not experience any interruptions during the pandemic.  In fact, SAF was able to increase engagement with patients through this virtual programming and reached more members than ever before. This nimbleness is just another way SAF demonstrates our commitment and dedication to our members.

As the only patient advocacy organization solely dedicated to scarring alopecia (hair loss), we’ve designated this month as National Scarring Alopecia Awareness Month. Through education, support, and advocacy, SAF is determined to bring attention to this growing hair disorder and the impact this disease has on patients. Greater recognition and attention lead to more research to find the cause, better treatments, and, someday, a cure. September is the month to spotlight this disease. You can get involved with SAF by offering your expertise to create positive change for this underserved and unknown group of hair loss disorders.

Touch Up Training Courses

Scarring Alopecia Foundation’s Touch Up Training courses are new to SAF’s library of resources for professional hair care providers. SAF’s inaugural training course is our partnership with Dr. Maryanne Senna and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Hair Academic Innovative Research (HAIR) Unit to train and educate hair salons and their personnel about how to recognize scarring hair loss.

The training aims to educate hair stylists to recognize the signs of scarring hair loss, provide medical resources for their clients, and encourage stylists to provide specific hair care options for clients with scarring hair loss. Together we can help members become more confident, not only in their appearance, but with themselves!

Be sure to email the Certificate of Completion you receive after successfully taking the training course and your contact information (stylist name, salon name, salon links – website and social media) to SAF HERE to be added to our recognized stylist and/or salon list.

Patient Volunteers

Stylists are encouraged to refer potential scarring alopecia clients to SAF. In addition to the many resources we have for patients, we have trained and experienced volunteers who personally talk with newly diagnosed patients. Our Patient Outreach Volunteers (POVs) serve as a great introduction to the SAF community and help reduce patient anxiety and uncertainty while providing unbiased treatment and disease knowledge.
