Welcome to SAF’s Medical Student Program. The purpose of this program is to inspire the next generation of medical leaders to study and advance the care, knowledge, and treatments for patients with scarring alopecia through programs and projects that mutually benefit patients, SAF and medical students.
The focus of this program is Education & Awareness with various working groups supporting each initiative. Volunteer student applicants are encouraged to explore each working group and their purpose and choose the top three that best suit your interests and skills.
Applications will be reviewed, and applicants will be divided into working groups (considering your top choices) by members of the MSP Executive Committee and SAF staff. Volunteer student applicants will be notified by email to which working group you have been assigned. You will only be assigned to one working group.
Applications must be completed in full with all requirements. Incomplete applications will be purged after the deadline has passed.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Proof of good academic standing and enrollment in an accredited medical school. Send document via email to info@scarringalopecia.org.
- An interest or passion for dermatology, specifically hair loss disorders.
- Ability to commit to a minimum of one full year of volunteer service; two
years is optimal.
Expectations of Committee Members:
- To be an active member and engage in all group work during your term.
- Working group members will be supported and guided by the MSP Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will organize duties and report regularly to the SAF office.
- Clearly define your role when representing SAF and present yourself and the organization in a positive light and professional manner.
- Follow through on volunteer assignments.
- Keep other working group members and the Executive Committee informed of any conflicts or issues that may arise.
- Working group members who are inactive, miss deadlines, non-responsive, or misrepresent SAF in any way will be asked to step down.
Medical Student Working Group Benefits:
- Invitation to one-hour quarterly Q & A session with an expert hair loss physician(s) through SAF.
- Name associated with any work product that is generated from working group initiatives.
- Name listed on SAF’s website; moved to alumni after graduation.
